Heel Pain Treatment

Heel Pain Treatment

Heel pain is a common symptom that has many possible causes. Although heel pain sometimes is caused by a systemic (body-wide) illness, such as rheumatoid arthritis or gout, it usually is a local condition that affects only the foot.

The pain associated with this can be high, but most cases resolve with non-operative physiotherapy treatment in a few weeks.

Pain can often be reduced even before you have your first appointment. Over the counter medications such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can help reduce inflammation (consult your pharmacist first).

Make an appointment if you have significant pain that does not improve within a few days.

It is important to seek the input of a good physiotherapist. So Get In Touch to make an appointment.

The physiotherapy treatment is fairly straightforward. The most important thing is to identify the cause of the problem. This can usually be done with clinical tests without the need for any scans.

Treatment will usually consist of manual therapy techniques. Importantly you will be shown specific exercises that can help ensure normal movement.

An initial assessment and treatment is 1 hr. Any further sessions are usually 30 minutes. Most patients need only 4-6 sessions over a few weeks to resolve the problem. (However we can be more specific after you have been assessed)

The goal of physiotherapy is to reduce your pain and improve your movement. We use techniques that most patients find very comfortable and pain relieving.

I went to see Joe at short notice due to an injury shortly before an event I was training for. He efficiently assessed the issue, educated me about the causes and put in place a plan to help retrain and improve the injury. Ultimately I successfully completed the event, which is thanks to Joe, so I can heartily recommend him.
